The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a bold step in revamping their fast-bowling department, confirming the end of their association with Andre Adams through mutual agreement. Adams, who joined the coaching setup in March 2024, was at the helm of the pace group during the T20 World Cup and the build-up to the Champions Trophy. With a demanding international schedule on the horizon, BCB has opted for a change in leadership to guide the team’s fast bowlers into the next phase of their development.

Former Aussie pacer named new fast-bowling coach of Bangladesh

In a significant appointment, the BCB has brought in former Australian speedster Shaun Tait as the new fast-bowling coach. Tait’s contract runs until November 2027, covering a crucial period that includes the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the 50-over World Cup in 2027. The board is banking on Tait’s extensive experience in the subcontinent to elevate the standards of Bangladesh’s pace attack.

Taking charge at a time when Bangladesh is gearing up for a packed schedule of T20Is, ODIs, and Tests, Tait expressed his enthusiasm about shaping a competitive and result-driven bowling unit.

“It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results,” said Tait as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Global experience and elite pedigree

Known for his blistering pace and fierce competitiveness, Tait brings with him a wealth of coaching experience across international and franchise cricket. He has previously served as bowling coach for Pakistan, West Indies, and Afghanistan, and held various roles in leagues such as the BBL, PSL, LPL, and English county circuit. His familiarity with Bangladesh cricket is also notable, having worked closely with players like Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed during his tenure with the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League.

During his playing career, Tait represented Australia in 59 matches across formats between 2005 and 2016. He was a key figure in Australia’s 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning campaign, earning a reputation as one of the fastest bowlers the game has ever seen.

With a new mentor at the helm, Bangladesh will be hoping their emerging fast bowlers can transform potential into performance on the global stage.
