The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the much-anticipated India A squad set to embark on a crucial tour of England, featuring two challenging matches against England Lions.
Abhimanyu Easwaran to captain India A on England tour
The announcement, made on Friday, confirms Abhimanyu Easwaran as the captain, leading a strong contingent that includes a blend of seasoned campaigners and promising young talent.
The tour is slated to commence on May 30, with India A facing England Lions in the first of two fixtures. This series is expected to provide invaluable exposure and a stern test for the Indian youngsters against formidable opposition in English conditions.
Easwaran, a consistent performer in domestic cricket, will be at the helm, a testament to his leadership qualities and batting prowess. The squad features several prominent names, including the explosive wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, the experienced middle-order batter Karun Nair, and the all-rounder Shardul Thakur, all of whom bring international experience to the ‘A’ setup. Dhruv Jurel has been named as the vice-captain and will also handle wicket-keeping duties alongside Kishan.
Further bolstering the squad, the BCCI press release confirmed that star opener Shubman Gill and emerging talent Sai Sudharsan are slated to join the India A side ahead of the second match. Their inclusion will add significant firepower and depth to the batting lineup, especially for the second fixture, which is scheduled to begin on June 6. This strategic move suggests that both Gill and Sudharsan, perhaps returning from other commitments or in preparation for future senior team assignments, will be looking to get some match practice in England.
