The Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow was the stage for a high-stakes showdown as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 70th and final league match of IPL 2025 on May 27. With RCB needing a win to secure a top-two finish and LSG playing for pride in their last home game, the atmosphere was electric. But the night so far belonged to Rishabh Pant, who scripted a remarkable comeback with a blistering century that sent fans into a frenzy.

Rishabh Pant scores an exceptional ton against RCB

Pant, enduring a tough season with the bat, chose the perfect moment to remind the cricketing world of his explosive talent. Promoting himself to No. 3, Pant walked in early and, after a steady start, unleashed a breathtaking assault on the RCB bowlers. His partnership with Mitchell Marsh was the backbone of LSG’s innings, as the duo stitched together a 152-run stand that left the opposition reeling.

Pant’s innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression. He reached his half-century off just 29 balls, mixing audacious sweeps, powerful drives, and signature one-handed sixes. As the innings progressed, Pant accelerated, dispatching anything loose to the boundary. The moment of the night came in the 18th over, when Pant reached his hundred spectacularly: stretching outside off to loft Bhuvneshwar Kumar over extra cover, losing his balance, and tumbling to the ground—only to spring up and celebrate with a somersault that had the crowd on its feet. This was Pant’s second IPL century and his first in seven years, achieved in just 54 balls, the fastest ever by an LSG batter.

LSG’s batting blitz set up a monumental target against RCB

LSG’s innings was a tale of relentless pressure on the RCB attack. After losing Matthew Breetzke early, Marsh and Pant took charge. Marsh was equally destructive, hammering 67 off 37 balls with four fours and five sixes, ensuring the run rate never dipped. The pair brought up 100 runs in under 10 overs and 150 by the 14th, putting LSG in a commanding position.

Pant continued his onslaught even after Marsh’s departure at 177, finding support from Nicholas Pooran and Abdul Samad in the final overs. By the end of 20 overs, Pant was unbeaten on 118 from 61 balls, studded with 11 fours and eight sixes, as LSG posted a daunting 227/3. RCB’s bowlers had no answers, with even their most experienced campaigners going for runs. The total was a statement, not just of Pant’s return to form, but of LSG’s batting firepower on a night when the fans demanded entertainment—and got it in abundance.
