In a significant move that reflects the growing stature of Test cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a whopping total prize purse of $5.76 million (approximately ₹49.29 crore) for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The figure marks a major financial leap, with the prize fund more than doubling compared to the previous editions.
The governing body revealed that all nine participating teams will be rewarded based on their standings in the final WTC table. The lion’s share of the purse, unsurprisingly, is reserved for the two finalists. This initiative, according to the ICC, aims to incentivize excellence in the longest format of the game.
South Africa and Australia set for high-stakes WTC final at Lord’s
The grand finale of the WTC 2023-25 is set to take place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, commencing on June 11. Australia, the defending champions, and a resurgent South African side have secured their places in the summit clash after an intense two-year qualification cycle.
Australia will be eyeing back-to-back WTC titles, while South Africa will look to end their ICC trophy drought. With pride, history, and a substantial prize at stake, the final promises to be a thrilling contest between two quality Test outfits. Notably, the winner of the final will walk away with $3.6 million (approximately ₹30.79 crore), while the runner-up will take home $2.16 million (around ₹18.47 crore).

India to receive a whopping prize money
Despite falling short of reaching the final, Team India has not returned empty-handed. The Men in Blue, who finished third in the WTC points table, have earned $1.44 million — approximately ₹12.31 crore. While the result may sting for a side that was seen as a strong contender for the final, the financial reward offers a small consolation.
India’s consistent performances at home and abroad had them in a strong position midway through the cycle. However, crucial defeats in the latter stages dented their final qualification hopes.
