The five-time title holders Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to face Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator of IPL 2025. One of the most successful franchises in the cash-rich league, MI has witnessed numerous experienced and young players leaving their mark on this iconic team. Backed by one of the strongest fanbases, the franchise has been home to several superstars of world cricket.

As the IPL playoffs are underway, let’s take a look at how MI has performed on the biggest stage – the playoffs:

IPL 2010: Runner-ups

MI reached their first IPL final, finishing second in the league stage with 10 wins. In the final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at DY Patil Stadium, MI bowled first, conceding 168 for 5, with Suresh Raina’s unbeaten 57 proving decisive. Despite Sachin Tendulkar’s 48 and Kieron Pollard’s 27 off 10, MI managed only 146 for 9, losing by 22 runs. This run marked MI’s emergence as a playoff powerhouse.

IPL 2011: Qualifier 2

Under Tendulkar’s captaincy, MI finished third. In the Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mumbai, MI restricted KKR to 147 for 7, with Munaf Patel claiming 3 for 27. Aiden Blizzard’s blistering 51 off 30 balls led MI to a four-wicket win in 16.2 overs. In Qualifier 2 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chennai, MI posted 142 for 8, but Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 89 powered RCB to a 43-run victory, ending MI’s campaign.

IPL 2012: Eliminator

Led by Harbhajan Singh, MI secured third place with 10 wins. In the Eliminator against CSK in Bangalore, MI elected to field, but CSK’s 187 for 5, driven by MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 51 off 20, proved too steep. MI’s chase restricted to 149 for 9, with Dwayne Smith’s 24 not out ,the only performer, resulting in a 38-run loss.

IPL 2013: Champions

Rohit Sharma’s first season as captain saw MI finish second with 11 wins. In Qualifier 1 against CSK in Delhi, MI restricted CSK to 144 for 7, with Harbhajan Singh taking 2 for 26. Suryakumar Yadav’s 71 off 54 helped MI’s chase, securing a six-wicket win in 18.3 overs. In the final at Kolkata, MI posted 148 for 9, with Pollard’s unbeaten 60 off 32 crucial. Lasith Malinga’s 2 for 22 and Mitchell Johnson’s 2 for 19 held CSK to 125 for 9, clinching MI’s first title by 23 runs.

IPL 2014: Eliminator

MI sneaked into the playoffs in fourth place after a dramatic chase of 190 in 14.4 overs against Rajasthan Royals (RR), sealed by Aditya Tare’s last-ball six. In the Eliminator against CSK in Mumbai, MI scored 173f or 8,. CSK chased 174 in 18.4 overs, with Faf du Plessis’ unbeaten 35 guiding a seven-wicket win, knocking MI out.

IPL 2015: Champions

MI overcame an early slump to finish champions. In Qualifier 1 against CSK in Mumbai, MI posted a strong 187 for 6 with Lendle Simmons  65 and Pollard’s 41 starring. Malinga’s 3 for 23 restricted CSK to 162, securing a 25-run win. In the final at Kolkata, MI set 202 for 5, powered by Rohit’s 50 and Simmons’ 68. Malinga and Harbhajan’s brilliant spells bowled out CSK for 161, earning MI their second title by 41 runs.

IPL 2017: Champions

MI topped the leagues with 10 wins. In Qualifier 1 against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in Mumbai, MI scored 184 for 8, but RPS chased it down with Washington Sundar’s 3 for 16 and Dhoni’s finishing leading to a 20-run loss. In Qualifier 2 against KKR, MI bowled out KKR for 107, with Karn Sharma’s 4 for 16 figures. MI chased 108 in just 14.3 overs, winning by six wickets. In the final at Hyderabad, MI defended 129 for 8, with Krunal Pandya’s 47 and Jasprit Bumrah’s 2 for 26 sealing a one-run victory for their third title.

IPL 2019: Champions

MI finished second with nine wins in the league stages. In Qualifier 1 against CSK in Chennai, MI restricted CSK to 131 for 4 and chased it in 18.3 overs, with Suryakumar’s unbeaten 71 earning a six-wicket win. In the final at Hyderabad, MI posted 149 for 8, with Pollard’s 41 not out crucial. Bumrah’s 2 for 14 and Rahul Chahar’s 1 for 14 held CSK to 148 for 7, securing MI’s fourth title by one run.

IPL 2020: Champions

MI dominated, finishing first with nine wins. In Qualifier 1 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dubai, MI scored 200 for 5, with Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 55 not out. Bumrah’s 4 for 14 bowled out DC for 143 for 8, earning a 57-run win. In the final, MI posted 156 for 7, with Rohit’s 68 pivotal. Trent Boult’s 3 for 30 and Bumrah’s 2 for 28 restricted DC to 143 for 8, clinching MI’s fifth title by five wickets.

IPL 2023: Qualifier 2

MI secured fourth place with eight wins. In the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Chennai, MI posted 182 for 8, with Cameron Green’s 41 off 23 key. Akash Madhwal’s sensational 5 for 5 limited LSG for 101, earning an 81-run win. In Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans (GT), MI scored 171 for 5, but GT chased it in 18.2 overs, with Shubman Gill’s 129 leading to a 62-run defeat.
