Lucknow Super Giants delivered a commanding performance to defeat Gujarat Titans by 33 runs in Match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Batting first, LSG piled up a mammoth 235/2, with Mitchell Marsh producing a sensational 117 off just 64 balls. His knock, filled with clean hitting and excellent placement, laid the foundation for the massive total. Support came from Aiden Markram, who struck 36 off 24, and Nicholas Pooran, who lit up the finish with a blistering 56 not out off just 27 deliveries.

In reply, Gujarat looked competitive for most of the chase with brisk starts from Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan, but they fell short in the final stretch, finishing at 202/9. Will O’Rourke’s economical and incisive spell of 3/27 proved to be a crucial difference-maker. The result dents GT’s dominant run and gives LSG a much-needed boost in the playoff race.

Mitchell Marsh’s brilliance headlines a batting masterclass by Lucknow Super Giants

Marsh stood tall with a dazzling century that anchored Lucknow’s innings. Coming in after a brisk opening partnership, Marsh took control of proceedings and punished anything loose, blending powerful strokes with smart placement. He reached his ton in just 59 balls and continued the onslaught until the 19th over. His eight sixes and ten fours were the centerpiece of LSG’s innings.

Markram provided the initial thrust with a 36-run cameo before falling to Sai Kishore, but the real fireworks were reserved for the death overs. Pooran played the perfect finisher’s role, clobbering five sixes in his 27-ball 56. Rishabh Pant chipped in with an unbeaten 16 off 6 balls, taking LSG past the 230-mark. Gujarat’s bowlers had no answers, with Rashid Khan conceding 36 runs in just 2 overs and Arshad Khan proving the only wicket-taker with 1/36. Despite using six bowlers, GT failed to contain the carnage as LSG racked up 77 runs in the last five overs to post one of the highest totals of the season.

Gujarat Titans start strong but falter against William O’Rourke’s precision

Chasing a steep target of 236, Gujarat got off to a promising start. Gill and Sai Sudharsan provided an early push, reaching 46/1 in under five overs. Gill’s brisk 35 and Buttler’s 33 kept the asking rate in check. The real threat for LSG when Shahrukh Khan and Sherfane Rutherford stitched together a 50-run stand in just 27 balls, momentarily shifting momentum in GT’s favour.

Shahrukh dazzled with a 22-ball fifty, striking five fours and three sixes. However, the turning point came with William O’Rourke’s entry. The Kiwi pacer dismantled the middle order with figures of 3/27, dismissing Sudharsan, Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia at key intervals. Avesh Khan chipped in with two wickets, including the prized scalp of Gill, and Ayush Badoni cleaned up the tail with two scalps in his solitary over. GT collapsed from 182/3 to 202/9 in the final four overs, unable to keep up with the required rate. LSG’s death bowling tightened the noose, sealing a massive win that shakes up the standings heading into the final stretch of the league phase.
