The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a melting pot of cricketing talent, where players often switch franchises, bringing their skills to rival teams. Two of the IPL’s most iconic teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have shared several players over the years despite their fierce rivalry. Among the notable names who have donned the jerseys of both franchises, are some big stars. These players, with their unique skill sets, have left their mark on both teams, contributing to memorable moments in the IPL.

3 players who have represented both RCB and CSK in IPL T20:

1. Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube’s journey in the IPL is a testament to his resilience and adaptability. The Mumbai-born all-rounder began his IPL career with RCB in 2019 after being acquired for INR 5 crore in the auction. At RCB, Dube was seen as a promising middle-order batsman and a handy medium-pacer. However, his time with RCB was inconsistent, as he struggled to cement a regular spot in a star-studded batting lineup featuring Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. In 15 matches across two seasons (2019-2020), Dube scored 169 runs at a strike rate of over 120, with his best performance being an unbeaten 27 off 16 balls.

In the 2022 auction, CSK signed Dube for INR 4 crore, and this move proved to be a game-changer. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, Dube found his niche as a power-hitting middle-order batsman. His ability to take on spinners and finish games earned him a permanent spot in CSK’s XI. In the 2023 season, Dube smashed 418 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 158.33, including three fifties. His standout performances, especially against spin, made him a fan favorite in Chennai. Dube’s transformation from an underutilized talent at RCB to a match-winner for CSK highlights the impact of team environment on a player’s career.

2. Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood, one of Australia’s premier fast bowlers, brought his disciplined bowling to both CSK and RCB. Hazlewood first joined CSK in 2020, where his accuracy and ability to bowl in the powerplay and death overs made him valuable an asset. In 12 matches for CSK (2020-2021), he took 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.29, often providing breakthroughs with the new ball. His height and bounce troubled batsmen on Indian pitches, earning him praise from Dhoni.

In 2022 auction, RCB acquired Hazlewood for INR 7.75 crore, seeking his experience to bolster their pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj. Hazlewood played 12 matches for RCB in 2022, picking up 20 wickets at an economy of 8.11. His ability to swing the new ball and execute yorkers in the death overs was instrumental in RCB’s playoff run. In 2025, the pacer is doing a phenomenal job for the side, in ten games he has taken 18 wickets, with an impressive average of 17.28.

South African pacer Lungi Ngidi is another player who has represented both CSK and RCB, though his IPL journey has been marred by injuries. Ngidi debuted for CSK in 2018, impressing with his raw pace and bounce in the death overs. In 14 matches across three seasons (2018-2020), he claimed 20 wickets at an economy of 8.27. His ability to bowl hard lengths and deliver in crunch situations made him a key part of CSK’s bowling unit, especially in their 2018 title-winning campaign.

In 2025, Ngidi acquired by RCB in the auction for INR 1 crore. However, he has yet to make his debut from RCB this season, but Ngidi’s talent as a fast bowler remains undeniable, and his experience with both franchises reflects the high regard in which he is held.
