The Sawai Mansingh Stadium witnessed a high-octane clash in Match 66 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as Delhi Capitals (DC) successfully chased down a challenging target set by Punjab Kings (PBKS), securing a six-wicket victory with three balls to spare.

Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis steer Punjab Kings to 206 

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals opted to bowl first, a decision that saw Punjab Kings post a formidable total of 206/8 in their allotted 20 overs. PBKS’s innings was built on a collective batting effort, with notable contributions from captain Shreyas Iyer, who anchored the innings with a well-compiled 53 runs off 34 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. Josh Inglis provided an explosive start, smashing 32 off just 12 deliveries, while Prabhsimran Singh added a quickfire 28 from 18 balls. Towards the end, Marcus Stoinis unleashed a blistering cameo, scoring 44 runs off a mere 16 balls, featuring 3 fours and 4 towering sixes, propelling Punjab past the 200-run mark.

For Delhi Capitals, Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 33 runs. He was well supported by Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav, who each picked up 2 wickets.

Sameer Rizvi, Karun Nair add a match-winning partnership for Delhi Capitals

Chasing 207 for victory, Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup rose to the occasion with a calculated and aggressive approach. KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis provided a solid foundation with quick starts, scoring 35 and 23 respectively. Karun Nair then played a crucial anchoring role, contributing 44 runs off 27 balls. However, the true impetus to the chase came from Sameer Rizvi, who unleashed a match-winning innings of 58 runs off just 25 balls, decorated with 3 fours and 5 sixes. His explosive hitting, combined with Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 18, ensured Delhi reached the target of 208/4 in 19.3 overs. For Punjab Kings, Harpreet Brar was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets for 41 runs.

The thrilling contest saw momentum swing back and forth, but Delhi Capitals’ batting depth and composure under pressure ultimately proved decisive. For his brilliant batting performance Rizvi was adjudged the Player of the Match.
