Mumbai Indians (MI) are reportedly in talks to sign England stars Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson as potential replacements for Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks in IPL 2025. As the season reaches at its final stages, the franchise is looking to bolster its squad with experience and proven match-winners in quest for their sixth title.

Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton to return ahead of IPL 2025 playoffs

England’s explosive batting all-rounder Jacks is set to feature in their upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies later this month. Therefore, he will only be available for the last two league matches of the IPL season and will miss the crucial playoff stage. Meanwhile, South African wicketkeeper, Rickelton is to be part of the World Test Championship (WTC) final preparations, ruling him out of Mumbai’s late-season plans. These unavailability’s have prompted the franchise to explore experienced options, with Bairstow and Gleeson reportedly in talks to join as replacements.

So far in 50 matches of IPL, he has scored 1589 runs and an healthy strike rate of 144.55.

Gleeson, a fast bowler with an impressive T20 profile is also being considered. Also, he had a very short stint with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in previous seasons.

Mumbai Indians’ playoffs chances in IPL 2025

The five-time champions have produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in IPL history. After managing just one win in their first five games, Mumbai bounced back in style with six consecutive victories. They now sit fourth on the points table with a strong net run rate of +1.156. Two more wins will guarantee them a playoff spot, while even one win might be enough—though it could cost them a place in the top two.
