Keacy Carty delivered a historic performance in the third ODI against Ireland, etching his name into West Indies cricket history. Batting at No.3, the 27-year-old right-hander hammered a blazing 170 off just 147 balls, surpassing Brian Lara‘s long-stading record of in ODI cricket.

His masterclass powered West Indies to a mammoth 385/7 in 50 overs at the Providence Stadium. Carty’s knock was laced with finesse and brute force, featuring 17 boundaries and five towering sixes, completely dismantling Ireland’s bowling attack.

Keacy Carty breaks Brian Lara’s record

Carty went on to shatter Lara’s 30-year-old record of 169 runs – the highest score while batting at number three for the West Indies in ODIs until now. Carty’s 170 not only overtook Lara’s iconic innings against Sri Lanka in 1995, but it also pushed Sir Vivian Richards’ unbeaten 153* against Australia in 1979 further down the list. This stunning effort now stands as the highest ODI score by a West Indies batter at No.3. With this knock, Carty also registered the sixth-highest individual score by a West Indian in ODI history,

Ireland crumble as West Indies level series

Chasing a daunting target of 386, Ireland faltered under pressure and folded for just 165 in 29.5 overs. The West Indies bowlers kept things tight, never allowing the visitors to settle. Carty, unsurprisingly, was named the Player of the Match for his monumental contribution.

With this win, the three-match ODI series ended in a 1-1 stalemate, as the second game was washed out due to rain. The attention now shifts to the upcoming three-match T20I series, where both teams will look to start afresh.
