As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs kicks off today, after two months of intense, edge-of-the-seat action, the spotlight shifts to who might make it all the way to the final. With every team showcasing moments of brilliance, the race for the title has looked competitive. Amid the growing excitement, former Australian batter and World Cup winning captain, Michael Clarke picked his finalists, that has sparked both curiosity and debate among fans.

Michael Clarke picks the finalists of IPL 2025

In a video posted by Star Sports YouTube channel with the caption ‘Who’s Making the Final? Our Experts Weigh In’, Clarke predicts it will be Mumbai Indians (MI) up against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final of IPL 2025. Both teams after a remarkable season went up against each other a few days ago, where PBKS edged past MI after a solid batting performance.

“I am gonna go with Mumbai Indians versus, I’m gonna go Punjab. Punjab V Mumbai final,” said the World Cup-winning captain.

Clarke, known for his masterful tactics on ground, made his IPL debut with Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2012. However, his stint in the league didn’t quite match the standards of his exceptional international career. In six appearances, he managed to score just 98 runs, with only one innings crossing the 30-run mark.

MI and PBKS’ remarkable IPL 2025 season

MI, who began their IPL 2025 campaign on a disappointing note, have staged an impressive comeback. After managing just one win in their first five games, the five-time champions bounced back with six consecutive victories, showcasing their trademark resilience. Led by the explosive form of Suryakumar Yadav, their batting unit has clicked at crucial moments, while the bowlers have delivered when it mattered most.

PBKS on the other side registered a playoffs berth after 11 years. Under the leadership of their new skipper, Shreyas Iyer—who is eyeing back-to-back IPL titles with different franchises—the team has looked balanced and dominant. PBKS topped the points table with consistent performances across all departments, blending explosive batting, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding. With momentum on their side, they’re shaping up as strong contenders for their maiden title.
