Once celebrated as the most dependable T20 spinner in the IPL, Rashid Khan‘s 2025 campaign came crashing down with an embarrassing record that no bowler would want to hold. During Gujarat Titans’ Eliminator clash against Mumbai Indians on Friday, May 30, the Afghan leg-spinner added a dubious feather to his cap, setting a new IPL record which no bowler would hope for.
Rashid Khan surpasses Mohammed Siraj to create an unwanted record
Rashid’s final outing of the season mirrored his overall struggles. He bowled four overs without claiming a wicket and conceded 31 runs in a high-pressure match that saw Gujarat Titans knocked out of the tournament. With two more sixes added to his tally, Rashid ended IPL 2025 with a total of 33 sixes conceded — the highest ever by a bowler in one season. This unfortunate stat saw him surpass Mohammed Siraj’s 2022 record of 31 sixes.
Most sixes conceded by bowlers in a single IPL season:
- 33 – Rashid Khan (2025)
- 31 – Mohammed Siraj (2022)
- 30 – Yuzvendra Chahal (2024)
- 30 – Wanindu Hasaranga (2022)
- 30 – Dwayne Bravo (2018)
Notably, the IPL 2025 campaign has statistically been Rashid’s worst since his debut in the league. He managed only 9 wickets across the season — his lowest ever — and recorded an economy rate of 9.34 along with a bowling average of 57.11, both of which are personal worsts. For someone considered the gold standard in T20 bowling, the fall has been stark and shocking.

Gujarat Titans falter despite brave effort in chase
Gujarat Titans’ performance on the night wasn’t helped by a sloppy effort in the field. They dropped three crucial catches, including two off Rohit Sharma who made them pay with a fluent 81 off 50 balls. Mumbai Indians posted a daunting 228/5, the second-highest total in IPL playoff history, with Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya providing fiery finishing touches.
Despite losing captain Shubman Gill in the opening over, Gujarat fought back through Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant 80-run knock. He stitched two key partnerships — 64 runs with Kusal Mendis and 86 runs with Washington Sundar — to keep the chase alive However, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Richard Gleeson struck at vital moments to derail GT’s chase. Gleeson’s dismissal of Sudharsan in the 16th over proved to be the turning point, as the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t maintain the required rate.
