Pakistan registered a dominant victory over Bangladesh in the opening T20I of the three-match series, held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The hosts secured a convincing 37-run win, with both batters and bowlers contributing effectively. Pakistan’s young side showcased stealth, putting up a strong performance. Their disciplined bowling attack complemented an aggressive batting display, allowing them to defend the target comfortably.
Middle order lifts Pakistan after early collapse
After winning the toss, Pakistan’s skipper Salman Agha decided to bat first. The hosts had a poor start, losing both openers with just 5 runs on the board. However, Mohammad Haris and Agha brought stability with a composed 48-run stand off just 32 balls. Later, explosive cameos from Hasan Namaz and Shadab Khan powered Pakistan to a commanding total of 201.
For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam stood out with two wickets, including the key dismissal of Fakhar Zaman. The rest of the bowling attack chipped in with a wicket each, but struggled to contain the late onslaught from Pakistan’s middle order.
Hasan Ali’s five-wicket haul troubles Bangladesh
In reply, Bangladesh began positively with opener Tanzid Hasan scoring a brisk 31 off just 17 deliveries. However, despite the quick start, they lost two wickets within the powerplay. Skipper Litton Das tried to anchor the innings with some elegant strokes, keeping the scoreboard moving. But just as he looked set, he fell to a mistimed shot at backward point.
Apart from a brief resistance by Jaker Ali, none of the Bangladeshi batters could withstand Pakistan’s relentless bowling attack. Hasan Ali was the key highlight, claiming his maiden T20I five-wicket haul while conceding just 30 runs. His precise line, subtle variations, and relentless accuracy kept the pressure on throughout the innings. Hasan’s exceptional spell earned him the Player of the match award as Bangladesh were bowled out well short of the target.
