Virat Kohli’s 2016 campaign remains unmatched in the league’s 18 year history. Captaining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kohli scored a record 973 runs in just 16 matches. With an incredible average of 81.08 and a strike rate over 150, he notched up four centuries and seven fifties in that season. His ability to lead from the front was instrumental in RCB’s journey to the final that year. Despite the team falling short of the title, Kohli’s dominance with the bat made it a historic season both for him and the tournament.

2. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) – 2023

The second in the list is Gujarat Titans’ (GT) star batter Shubman Gill. The 25-year-old had a standout season while opening in 2023. In 17 innings, he amassed a total of 890 runs at a superb average of 59.33 and an impressive strike rate of 157.80. His season included three centuries and four half-centuries, with a top score of 129. Gill’s performances not only powered GT to the final but also helped him evolve from a promising talent into a match-winning force. It was a season that firmly placed him among the league’s elite batters.

3. Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals) – 2022

Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022,Buttler scored 863 runs in 17 matches, averaging over 57 and maintained an impressive strike rate of 149. Buttler’s season include four centuries and four fifties, with a highest score of 116. He was the Orange Cap winner that year and played a critical role in guiding Rajasthan to the final. His dominance at the top of the order made him nearly unstoppable for much of the tournament.

4. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 2016

The year 2016 had delivered another batting masterclass from Australian legend David Warner. Warner was a pillar of consistency for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during their title-winning 2016 season. He amassed 848 runs in 17 matches with an outstanding average of 60.57 and a strike rate of over 151. Although he didn’t register a century, Warner hit nine fifties and frequently giving his team quick starts. His highest score that season was an unbeaten 93. Beyond the runs, his leadership and aggressive intent were vital in SRH lifting their maiden IPL trophy.

5. Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans) – 2025

The last and youngest on the list is Sai Sudharsan. The 23-year-old had an impeccable season with the bat in IPL 2025. Opening the innings, Sudharsan scored a total of 759 runs at an average of over 54 and a healthy strike rate of 156. Sudharsan’s season also includes a total of six half centuries and a blistering century. His calm and composed temperament at the crease played a key role in helping Gujarat reach the playoffs. Although the team couldn’t progress further in the tournament, Sudharsan’s performance stood out, highlighting his immense potential for future endeavours.
