Virat Kohli fans are even bigger jokers than Virat: Rahul Vaidya slams RCB star after Avneet Kaur controversy (PC: X)

A social media storm has erupted following singer Rahul Vaidya’s scathing remarks directed at star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and his fans. The controversy stems from a recent incident involving Kohli and actress Avneet Kaur, which subsequently led to online backlash against Vaidya and his family.

Rahul Vaidya launches a scathing attack on Virat Kohli

The genesis of the current furore lies in a seemingly innocuous social media activity. Earlier, Kohli’s official Instagram account was observed to have ‘liked’ a post featuring Avneet Kaur on a fan page. This interaction, though brief and later clarified by Kohli as an “algorithm glitch” while clearing his feed, quickly gained traction online, sparking widespread discussion and memes across various platforms. Kohli had issued a statement clarifying that there was “absolutely no intent behind it” and requested that “no unnecessary assumptions be made.”

Adding his voice to the trending topic, singer Rahul Vaidya initially posted a humorous video on his social media. In the video, he lightheartedly mocked Kohli’s explanation, suggesting that if algorithms could mistakenly like photos, perhaps his own previous claim of being blocked by the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain on Instagram was also a similar “glitch.” Vaidya’s jibe, while seemingly in jest, referenced an earlier, unrelated instance where he claimed Kohli had blocked him without a known reason.

However, Vaidya’s comments did not sit well with a section of Kohli’s ardent followers. The singer soon found himself at the receiving end of significant online trolling and abuse. The situation escalated when, according to Vaidya, the abuse extended beyond him to include his wife, actress Disha Parmar, and his sister.

“You all Virat Kohli fans are jokers! 2 Kaudi ke jokers”: Rahul Vaidya

Responding to the barrage of negative comments and personal attacks, Rahul took to his Instagram stories to express his strong displeasure. It was during this response that he made the now widely quoted statement, declaring, “Virat Kohli’s fans are even bigger jokers than Virat!” He further elaborated on the nature of the abuse, highlighting that targeting his family was unacceptable. “And now you are abusing me that’s fine but you are abusing my wife my sister.. who have nothing to do with this! So I was right. That’s why you all Virat Kohli fans are jokers! 2 kaudi ke jokers,” he wrote, using a colloquial term to emphasize his point.

In subsequent interactions with the media, Vaidya stood by his comments, explaining that while he remains a fan of Kohli the cricketer, he does not “endorse him as a human being.” He stated that his initial video was meant to be humorous, but the subsequent abusive reaction from fans necessitated his strong response. He highlighted the prevalent issue of online bullying and the ease with which individuals resort to personal attacks and abuse, especially when engaging with public figures and their supporters.
