Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated dramatically on Saturday night after Pakistan reportedly violated a newly brokered ceasefire agreement, drawing sharp condemnation from prominent Indian cricketers. The ceasefire, announced just hours earlier following U.S.-led diplomatic efforts, was intended to halt weeks of military confrontation triggered by a deadly terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives last month.
The fragile truce was shattered on Saturday evening when residents in Srinagar and Jammu reported hearing explosions, followed by widespread blackouts. Indian officials confirmed that Pakistani drones had entered Indian airspace, targeting key regions including Srinagar and Kutch, barely three hours after the ceasefire was announced. There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the incident reignited fears of a wider conflict.
Virender Sehwag mince no words in condemning Pakistan over ceasefire violation
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage. Sharing a picture with the Hindi idiom “Kutte ki dum tedi ki tedi hi rehti hai” (a dog’s tail remains crooked no matter how much you try to straighten it), Sehwag implied that Pakistan’s behaviour was incorrigible and untrustworthy. His post quickly went viral, resonating with many Indians frustrated by repeated breaches of trust.

Sehwag had previously blamed Pakistan for escalating the conflict, stating, “War has been chosen by Pakistan when they had an opportunity to keep quiet. They have escalated to save its terrorist assets, speaks so much about them. Our forces will reply in the most appropriate manner, a manner Pakistan will never forget.”

Shikhar Dhawan joins the chorus of criticising Pakistan
Shikhar Dhawan, another former Indian cricket star, echoed Sehwag’s sentiments. On X, Dhawan wrote in Hindi, “Ghatiya desh ne fir apna ghatiyapan poori duniya ke aage dikha diya” (The filthy nation has once again shown its filthiness to the whole world), directly calling out Pakistan for its actions.

Dhawan also praised the Indian armed forces for their swift response in intercepting and neutralizing multiple Pakistani drones, stating, “Respect to our brave hearts for protecting our borders with such strength and stopping the drone attack on Jammu. India stands strong. Jai Hind!”
