The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been full of surprises — from sensational sixes to nail-biting finishes. But during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) clash in Jaipur, the 2025 season treated fans to a rare moment of comic relief. As RR’s playoff dreams crumbled under pressure, a lighthearted episode involving Suryakumar Yadav and a mysteriously lost ball became the highlight of the evening.
Suryakumar Yadav turns ball-hunter as RR vs MI clash gives gully cricket vibe
In the ninth over of Rajasthan’s chase, Dhruv Jurel lofted Karn Sharma over extra cover for a flat six. However, what was supposed to be a routine boundary moment quickly turned into a field-side scavenger hunt. The ball, somehow, went missing near the photographers’ area, leading to a noticeable pause in play.
Suryakumar, alongside a couple of teammates, began scanning the perimeter, crouching behind equipment and signage in a desperate bid to retrieve the ball. While the umpire had already handed a replacement to Karn, Suryakumar, still unaware, continued his search with full commitment.
Eventually, the original ball was recovered, much to the amusement of viewers and commentators alike. The video clip quickly made rounds on social media, with fans dubbing the moment “peak gully cricket energy.”

MI dominate with bat and ball to knock RR out
While the ball hunt stole the show, Mumbai Indians were ruthless on the field. Riding on half-centuries from Ryan Rickelton (61) and Rohit Sharma (53), MI piled up a daunting total of 217/2 in 20 overs.
In response, the Royals faltered under scoreboard pressure, folding for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Karn and Trent Boult were the chief wreckers, claiming three wickets each. The heavy 100-run defeat marked the end of RR’s playoff aspirations, making them the second team eliminated from IPL 2025, after Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
