Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and cricket icon Virat Kohli, a couple widely revered for their public grace and professional excellence, have steadfastly chosen to keep their children, Vamika and Akaay, away from the intense media scrutiny. This deliberate decision to shield their offspring from the public eye has garnered significant attention, eliciting both widespread curiosity and profound respect across India.
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s firm stance on privacy
In a recent interview with Vogue, Anushka shed light on the couple’s parenting philosophy and their unwavering commitment to privacy. “We’ve thought about it a lot. We definitely do not want to raise a child in the public eye—we don’t plan on engaging our child in social media. I think it’s a decision your child should be able to take. No kid should be made to be more special than the other. It’s hard enough for adults to deal with it. It’s going to be difficult, but we intend to follow through,” Anushka stated, articulating a perspective that resonates deeply with a growing number of celebrity parents today.
The core of Anushka and Virat’s decision lies in their earnest desire to afford their children a childhood as normal and grounded as possible. Anushka elaborated, “Conditioning is the most important role in how we see the world. I come from a progressive background, so that will always be a part of our home. Love is the underlying factor in our home, and what’s important to us is that our child be respectful of people. You have to create that value structure. We don’t want to raise brats.” The couple firmly believes that fame is not an inheritance, nor should children be propelled into the public domain before they are mature enough to make that choice for themselves, emphasizing, “No kid should be made to be more special than the other.”
Virat and Anushka protecting their kids from paparazzi?
Their dedication to privacy extends beyond social media abstinence. The Kohli-Sharma family has consistently appealed to paparazzi to refrain from photographing their children, going so far as to send personalized gifts and notes as a gesture of gratitude for respecting their wishes. This mutual understanding has fostered an environment where the family can enjoy simple, everyday moments—such as park strolls and café visits—without the constant looming presence of intrusive lenses.

Last year, the family made a significant move to London. While not a complete retreat from public life, this relocation has provided them with a calmer setting, characterized by stricter privacy laws and a generally more restrained media culture.

Anushka further highlighted the foundational importance of shared parental responsibilities within their household. “We don’t see it as mum and dad duties, but as a family unit. For us, it’s important that our child be raised with a very balanced outlook. It is all about shared duties,” she noted. Her flexible career allows her to be the primary caregiver, particularly during the children’s formative years, complementing Virat’s demanding cricket commitments.
The approach taken by Anushka and Virat mirrors a noticeable trend among the new guard of Bollywood parents. This generation is increasingly prioritizing their children’s autonomy and psychological well-being over the traditional expectations of celebrity offspring public visibility. As Anushka sagely concluded, “You have to learn as you go; you can’t pressurise yourself, but you have to be prepared because there will be curveballs.”
