Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has found himself at the center of a social media storm after a video of him playing cricket in nothing but briefs went viral, sparking a wave of memes, jokes and criticism across the internet. The incident, which occurred during a friendly match with fellow actor Akshay Kumar and choreographer Ganesh Acharya, has divided fans and netizens, with opinions ranging from admiration for Shroff’s physique to sharp rebukes over his unconventional attire.

Tiger Shroff faces online backlash for playing cricket in briefs

The controversy began when Tiger Shroff posted a video on Instagram showing him batting and running across the pitch, clad only in snug black briefs and sports shoes. Akshay Kumar, in contrast, appeared in standard athletic wear, accentuating Shroff’s bold sartorial choice.

While some fans lauded the actor’s fitness and carefree attitude, others questioned his decision to forgo more modest clothing. Comments like “Doesn’t he have clothes?” and “Chaddi pahen ke cricket khelna zaroori hai kya?” (Is it necessary to play cricket wearing underwear?) flooded social media platforms, with some users even drawing gender-based comparisons, noting the double standards in public reactions to men and women dressing minimally.

One user remarked, “Playing cricket is okay, but why just shorts? If we try this, people will beat us up,” while another quipped, “Tiger, have some self-respect. You’re someone’s future husband. Who will marry you if you post like this?” Despite the criticism, a segment of his fanbase defended the actor, calling his physique “pure gym goals” and urging others to “let the man enjoy his cricket in peace.”

Tiger Shroff responds wittily to trolls

Rather than shying away from the controversy, Shroff responded in his trademark light-hearted style. On Thursday, he took to Instagram Stories to share a new video of himself playing cricket—this time, dressed in track pants but still shirtless. Accompanying the clip was the playful caption: “Track pants mein bhi yehi haal hai” (It is the same condition in track pants too), a tongue-in-cheek nod to the trolls who had earlier targeted him for playing in briefs.

By posting this follow-up, Shroff not only addressed the criticism but also subtly mocked the fixation on his clothing, suggesting that his performance on the pitch remains unchanged regardless of what he wears. His witty comeback was met with laughter and support from many followers, who appreciated his ability to handle negativity with humour and confidence.

On the professional front, Tiger Shroff is gearing up for the release of Baaghi 4, the next part of his popular action movie. The film, directed by Harsha, promises a darker and more emotionally intense storyline, with Shroff’s character Ronnie facing off against a global terror network. The movie, which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonam Bajwa, is set to hit theatres on September 5.
