After more than two decades of an illustrious career on the cricket field, one of India’s most respected cricketers, Piyush Chawla, has officially announced his retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket. The announcement, made through a heartfelt social media post, marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw him achieve the highest honours in the game and earn the admiration of fans and peers alike.
Piyush Chawla’s cricketing journey etched in history
Chawla, who was a part of India’s victorious squads in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, reflected on his career with deep gratitude. “From representing India at the highest level to being part of the victorious 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup squads, every moment in this incredible journey has been nothing short of a blessing. These memories will forever remain etched in my heart,” he wrote.
His journey in cricket began at a young age, and over the years, he established himself as a dependable and versatile player. Known for his commitment and sportsmanship, he became a role model for aspiring cricketers across the country.
Chawla’s IPL stints
In his emotional farewell message, the leg-spinner expressed his appreciation to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises that placed their trust in him throughout his career. He played for several teams including Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. “The Indian Premier League has been a truly special chapter in my career, and I have cherished every moment playing in it,” he noted.
His contributions in the IPL were significant, often turning the tide of matches with his experience and skill. He was known for his calm demeanor under pressure and his ability to mentor younger players.

Chawla pays gratitude to his coaches and family members
Chawla credited his coaches, Shri K.K. Gautam and the late Shri Pankaj Saraswat, for nurturing and shaping him into the player he became. “I owe my deepest gratitude to my coaches… for nurturing and shaping me into the cricketer I became,” he wrote.
The Alighar-born also paid a touching tribute to his family, calling them his “eternal pillar of strength.” He made special mention of his late father, whose belief in him, he said, lit the path he walked. “Without him, this journey would never have been possible,” he added.
In his statement, Chawla also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) for providing him with the opportunities to grow and express himself as a cricketer.
