Pant’s twin centuries set Headingley ablaze

Pant’s innings on Day 4 was nothing short of Test cricket perfection. Walking in at a tense moment after the dismissal of captain Shubman Gill, Pant was initially watchful, absorbing the pressure from England’s new-ball bowlers. He raised his half-century in 83 deliveries, showing uncharacteristic restraint before shifting gears as the innings progressed. He reached his hundred off 130 balls, eventually scoring a majestic 118 off 140 balls, laced with 15 exquisite fours and 3 sixes.

This hundred, following his 134 in the first innings, etched his name into the annals of cricketing greatness, making him the first Indian wicketkeeper and only the second in Test history to score centuries in both innings of a match,  the only other being Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower in 2001. With his extraordinary twin hundreds, Pant joined an illustrious list of Indian batters who have scored two centuries in a single Test, names that include Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
