India have made an emphatic start to the five-match Test series, ending Day 1 of the first game firmly in control after a commanding batting performance against England. On a surface offering little assistance to the bowlers, Indian batters laid the foundation with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill stole the show with brilliant centuries. The visitors finished the first day with 359 runs with the loss of 3 wickets.

Apart from skipper Ben Stokes, the other bowlers also need to step up and offer more support if they are to pull their team back into the contest. Stokes, who picked up two key wickets and led from the front in an otherwise tough outing for the hosts.

The home side must sharpen their fielding and employ strategic bowling plans, such as varying pace and setting attacking fields, to create pressure and induce mistakes from the Indian batsmen. With the pitch expected to remain good on the second day, the match is expected to bring some high-class cricket.
