England’s former T20I captain Jos Buttler has added another milestone to his illustrious career in the shortest format. In the opening match of the three-game series against the West Indies, Buttler played a scintillating knock that guided his team to a thrilling victory. Beyond his match-winning performance, he also surpassed some of the game’s biggest legends to achieve a unique and historic T20I record.

Jos Buttler adds big milestones to his name

Playing his 135th T20I match against the two-time World Cup-winning West Indies, Buttler became the fourth-highest run-scorer against the side, surpassing the legendary Virat Kohli. With two matches still remaining in the series and considering the sublime form Buttler is in, he could very well finish at the top of the list by the end.

Only David Warner and Kohli have more fifties against the Windies, underscoring Buttler’s dominance at the top of the order.

Buttler’s scintillating knock guides England to victory

In the first T20I against the West Indies at Chester-le-Street, Buttler came in to bat at number 3. After an early breakthrough, he partnered with youngster Jamie Smith to build a rapid 79-run stand off just 40 deliveries, giving England a flying start. Despite regular wickets falling in the middle overs, Buttler anchored the innings brilliantly, playing some exquisite strokes all around the ground. He went on to score a superb 96 off just 59 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. His knock powered England past the 180-run mark, setting a formidable total. In response, the visitors fell short by 21 runs, handing England a strong start to the series.
