The cricketing world is abuzz as the much-anticipated England vs India Test series kicks off on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. This five-match series marks a significant transition for Indian Test cricket, as Shubman Gill steps into the role of full-time Test captain, leading the side for the first time in the format.

With stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma having stepped away from red-ball cricket, the series offers a chance for India’s next generation to step up and take the baton forward in one of the toughest cricketing environments. Fans are eagerly awaiting how this fresh-faced Indian side responds to the challenge of English conditions.

Kevin Pietersen shares his preferred Indian batting lineup

As India wrestles with the challenge of finalizing a solid batting order for the opening Test, former England batter Kevin Pietersen has offered his perspective on how India should shape their top order. The former English batter reckoned Shubman can decide his position but KL Rahul should open with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Pietersen believed that Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair should also get a place in the middle-order to form the top 5.

“Shubman can decide; wherever Shubman is comfortable batting, he can bat at 3 or 4. KL (Rahul) and Yashasvi will open the batting. I’d have Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair; that’s your top 5,” said Pietersen as quoted by NDTV.

Pietersen further highlighted the importance of bolstering the lower-order considering English conditions and picked Rishabh Pant, the star wicketkeeper-batter, to fill in the number 7 spot.

“Potentially at 6, you might look at another batter. At the top of my head I don’t know who the other batters are in your squad, but you might have to have a look at another batter, and then Pant can bat at 7, and then you have your four seamers and a spinner,” added Pietersen.
