The third season of Major League Cricket (MLC) is poised for an electrifying start on Wednesday, June 12, as defending champions Washington Freedom face off against last year’s runners-up San Francisco Unicorns in the tournament opener. The six-team competition will span just over a month, concluding on July 13.

Joining the Freedom and Unicorns in the chase for the title are MI New York, Texas Super Kings, Los Angeles Knight Riders and Seattle Orcas. The league stage promises intense action, with all six franchises competing in a double round-robin format, resulting in 30 league matches before the crucial playoff phase begins.

Fans can anticipate a feast of high-quality cricket, with a host of international stars who recently shined in the Indian Premier League (IPL) confirming their participation. Notable names include Nicholas Pooran, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Trent Boult and Noor Ahmad, promising an exciting blend of skill and power.

Further emphasizing the global reach of franchise cricket, the MLC 2025 features strong ties with the IPL. Four of the six teams are under the ownership of established IPL franchises: MI New York (Mumbai Indians), Texas Super Kings (Chennai Super Kings), LA Knight Riders (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Seattle Orcas (Delhi Capitals), underscoring the growing synergy between the two leagues.
