In a high-stakes clash between Washington Freedom (WAS) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAS) in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, the game was filled with exciting batting and impressive bowling, but one moment stood out, a brilliant running sliding catch from Obus Pienaar that left fans and experts in total awe and admiration. The catch not only won hearts but laid the foundation of a big win from Washington.
Obus Pienaar’s stunning grab sends Alex Hales packing early
The moment came in the very first over of the second innings, with LAS chasing a mammoth target of 209 runs. Under early pressure, explosive English batter Alex Hales tried to charge down the track to a fuller delivery from Saurabh Netravalkar. However, the shot was badly mistimed and went straight up in the air towards the off side. Pienaar, positioned at third man, ran in and took a wonderful catch while sliding to his right. The crowd rose to their feet, and the Washington players came running in to celebrate the stunning effort.

Washington Freedom turns out too heavy for Los Angeles Knight Riders
In the 8th match of the high-intensity MLC 2025 season, WAS completely outplayed LAS in dominant fashion. Batting first, Washington had a shaky start as one batter after another fell despite getting off to promising starts. However, Glenn Maxwell had other plans. Coming in at number 6, the right-hander took apart the opposition bowling attack. Maxwell smashed a jaw-dropping century off just 48 balls, finishing unbeaten on 106 off 49 deliveries, including 13 towering sixes. His explosive knock helped WAS post a massive total of 208 runs.
In reply, LAS had possibly their worst start of the tournament, with both openers dismissed without scoring. Pakistan’s Saif Badar showed some resistance but couldn’t build on it. None of the other batters, apart from Saif, crossed the 30-run mark, resulting in a crushing 113-run defeat for LAS in California.
