Seattle Orcas (SEA) finally broke their shackles in their sixth game of MLC 2025, clinching a thrilling last-ball victory against MI New York (NY) in Dallas. Shimron Hetmyer finishes off with a six in a record run chase

Chasing a mammoth target of 238 runs, SEA never gave up until the very last moment of the high-intensity clash. The final-ball drama unfolded with six runs needed off the last delivery. Shimron Hetmyer, who had been struggling for form in T20s recently, was on strike. Rising to the occasion, he smashed a six off Kieron Pollard’s final ball, triggering wild celebrations in the SEA dugout. It was a poor delivery from Pollard to a well-set Hetmyer — a good-length ball on the body. Hetmyer stayed low and whipped it over the fine leg for a maximum. He eventually finished with a sensational match-winning knock of 97 not out off just 40 balls, helping his side in a 3 wickets win.

Nicholas Pooran’s century in vain as Seattle Orcas break losing streak in Dallas

In a crucial encounter, Seattle invited New York to bat first in Dallas. NY had a shaky start as opener Quinton de Kock was dismissed in the very first over. However, Monank Patel, alongside Caribbean six-hitting machine Nicholas Pooran, steadied the innings and kept the scoreboard ticking. Pooran went on to smash a scintillating century, scoring 108 runs off 69 balls. He was brilliantly supported by Tajinder Dhillon, who played a blistering knock of 95 off just 35 deliveries. The duo stitched together a record 158-run partnership off 68 balls, laying the foundation for a massive total. Despite the explosive middle overs, Seattle pulled things back at the death, conceding only 19 runs in the last three overs to restrict NY to 237.

Chasing the challenging target, Seattle were under immense pressure, coming off 10 consecutive defeats. However, the batters responded positively, building a series of quick, short partnerships that kept the required run rate in check. At No. 6, Hetmyer played a sensational innings, taking apart the NY bowling attack with ease. His unbeaten 97-run knock single-handedly turned the game in Seattle’s favor. Supporting contributions came from Kyle Mayers 37 runs and Sikandar Raza 30 runs, helping SEA complete a memorable and morale-boosting run chase.
