Nitish’s journey to IPL success
While Nitish’s international cricket opportunities have been limited, his impact in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been significant. Rana made his international debut in 2021 during India’s tour of Sri Lanka, playing one ODI and two T20 Internationals. Although his international outings were brief and modest in terms of runs, his domestic record tells a different story.
In first-class cricket, Rana has amassed 2,954 runs in 54 matches, showcasing his consistency and skill. His List A statistics are equally impressive, with 2,281 runs in 78 games. These performances have cemented his reputation as a reliable batter in the domestic circuit.
Rana’s IPL journey began in 2016 with Mumbai Indians, where he played for two seasons before moving to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). At KKR, he flourished over seven seasons, even captaining the team briefly and playing a key role in their IPL 2024 title win under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. Ahead of the 2025 season, Nitish was released by KKR and picked up by Rajasthan Royals. In his first season with the Royals, he played 11 matches and scored 217 runs, including two important half-centuries, despite the team’s overall disappointing campaign.
