The high-stakes Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will witness Punjab Kings (PBKS) taking on Mumbai Indians (MI) today, Sunday, June 1, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winner will earn the right to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the grand finale on June 3.
PBKS vs MI clash to decide RCB’s IPL 2025 final opponent
Mumbai, riding high after a 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans, have gathered momentum at the right time. In contrast, Punjab, which finished in the top two on the points table, will look to bounce back after a disappointing loss at their home ground in Mullanpur to RCB by eight wickets in Qualifier 1. While PBKS have already beaten MI in the league stage, a key psychological advantage, the knockout nature of this encounter means both teams will need to bring their A-game to secure a ticket to the final. Cricket legend AB de Villiers has weighed in with his prediction ahead of this crucial contest.

AB de Villiers predicts RCB’s final opponent between the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, legendary cricketer De Villiers shared his thoughts on the outcome of the PBKS vs MI battle. Initially, de Villiers had predicted a final featuring RCB and Gujarat, but with GT now eliminated, he revised his view. Despite MI’s impressive performance in the Eliminator, de Villiers leaned towards the Punjab Kings. However, he also confessed to having some doubts after watching MI’s confident display, leaving room for uncertainty, a reflection of IPL’s unpredictability.
“I had said a long time ago, almost a month ago, that Gujarat (Titans) and RCB will be in the final. It seems like everything went against my decision, but this is cricket, you never know; it’s a knock-out match. He It takes one or two great performances to put the pressure on your opposition. It will still be Punjab, but after watching last night’s game I have a bit of doubt in my mind,” AB de Villiers was quoted as saying by the Sportskeeda.
