Radio jockey and digital creator RJ Mahvash has forcefully responded to online trolls who accused her of leveraging the name of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal to gain followers, reigniting the ongoing debate about celebrity friendships, social media scrutiny, and the personal toll of public speculation.
Mahvash’s emotional IPL post sparks online backlash
The controversy flared up after Mahvash posted a heartfelt tribute to Chahal on Instagram following Punjab Kings’ defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final. In her message, Mahvash praised Chahal’s resilience, revealing that he played the season with three fractures – a testament, she wrote, to his “warrior spirit.” She also congratulated RCB and their fans, emphasizing the honor she felt in supporting Punjab Kings throughout the tournament.
However, the post drew sharp criticism from a section of social media users. One Instagram user accused Mahvash of “grabbing followers in the name of Yuzi,” and questioned her knowledge of cricket, suggesting she had only recently started following the sport.
Mahvash’s sharp rebuttal
Mahvash, who has consistently attended Punjab Kings matches and shared public support for Chahal, did not let the accusations slide. She responded directly to the troll, stating, “I have been hosting cricket since 2019, your knowledge is nil chotu! Research!” Her pointed reply quickly gained traction, with many fans praising her for standing up to online negativity.

Speculation about a romantic relationship between Mahvash and Chahal has been persistent since the cricketer’s separation from his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma. While both Mahvash and Chahal have repeatedly denied the rumours, describing each other as friends, their frequent public appearances—such as attending matches together—have continued to fuel gossip.
Mahvash has often used her platform to support Chahal’s cricketing achievements. In one notable exchange, Chahal referred to Mahvash as his “spine,” further intensifying public interest in their bond.
The toll of trolling
This latest episode is not the first time Mahvash has spoken out about the impact of online trolling. In a recent interview, she revealed that the relentless negativity had at times made her want to withdraw from public life altogether, highlighting the mental health challenges faced by public figures in the digital age. “I was unable to process it because some of the things being said weren’t even true. I just wanted to go back, live like a normal girl, and hide away in the mountains,” she stated.
