In a commanding performance at the Three Ws Oval, South Africa Women outclassed West Indies Women by 166 runs (DLS method) in the third ODI of the series. Powered by a blistering century from opener Tazmin Brits and a disciplined all-round bowling display, the visitors wrapped up the match well inside 30 overs of the second innings.

 

Tazmin Brits shines with a spectacular century

After losing the toss, South Africa were sent in to bat and made the most of the conditions. The opening pair of Laura Wolvaardt (75 off 76) and Brits (101 off 91) stitched together a solid foundation with a 150-plus partnership. While Wolvaardt played the anchor role with elegant strokes, Brits was the aggressor, hammering 8 fours and 4 sixes en route to her century.

Despite a slight middle-order wobble with quick dismissals of Nondumiso Shangase and Sune Luus, South Africa kept the momentum going with contributions from Marizanne Kapp (34 off 42) and a late cameo from Chloe Tryon (10 off 6). The team posted a formidable 278/6 in 45.5 overs before rain curtailed the innings.

In a rare bright spot for the home side, Afy Fletcher put in a commendable bowling performance, picking up 3 wickets for 53 runs in her full quota of 10 overs. Hayley Matthews and Jahzara Claxton chipped in with a wicket each, but they couldn’t stop the flow of runs or break the opening stand early.

West Indies Women Struggle in the Chase

Chasing a revised target under the DLS method, West Indies Women never looked in control. The top order crumbled quickly, with the hosts reduced to 11/4 in no time. The only resistance came from Claxton, who scored a valiant 43 off 32 balls, and Aaliyah Alleyne, who added 32 off 49.

South Africa’s bowling unit, led by Masabata Klaas (4/25), made life miserable for the Caribbean batters. Nonkululeko Mlaba (2/25) and Annerie Dercksen (2/1) added to the misery with disciplined spells, eventually bundling out West Indies for just 121/9 in 27.5 overs.
