The 9th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 witnessed a run-fest at the Oakland Coliseum in California as MI New York locked horns with Seattle Orcas. The contest turned out to be a high-octane thriller, with both teams delivering strong performances with the bat. While the Orcas posted a mammoth first-innings total, it was ultimately MI New York who emerged victorious by 7 wickets, thanks to a match-defining innings from their opener Monank Patel.
Kyle Mayers smashes a gigantic six
In the first innings, Kyle Mayers lit up the California evening with a blistering show of power-hitting. The left-handed Caribbean dasher took charge from the outset, sending MI New York’s bowlers on a leather hunt. During his breathtaking knock of 88 runs off just 46 balls, Mayers hammered 10 towering sixes and 3 boundaries, entertaining fans with his aggressive stroke play.
The highlight of his innings came in the 13th over, when Ehsan Adil pitched one short. Mayers was quick to read the length and pulled it majestically over deep square leg, sending the ball flying an incredible 305 feet (93 meters) into the night sky. The monstrous six left fans and commentators in disbelief, as it was struck with the cleanest of timing right off the sweet spot of his willow.

Monank Patel’s heroic knock steals the spotlight
Despite Mayers’ blazing innings powering Seattle Orcas to 200/5 in their allotted 20 overs, it wasn’t enough to halt MI New York’s dominant chase. The credit largely goes to USA captain Monank, who rose to the occasion with a sensational knock under pressure. Monank anchored the chase with a commanding 93 off 50 balls, laced with 8 fours and 7 sixes, taking the game away from the Orcas.
He received solid support from Michael Bracewell, who remained unbeaten on 50, as MI New York completed the chase comfortably in 19 overs with 7 wickets in hand. While Mayers’ mammoth six and aggressive batting drew early attention, it was Monank’s composure and authority that proved to be the ultimate game-changer.
