With the curtain falling on the high-voltage Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the focus of Indian cricket fans has shifted to the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), a tournament known for giving regional players a platform while also offering a slice of offbeat entertainment.
TNPL 2025: S. Badrinath’s viral exchange with RCB fan
Amid all the buzz surrounding Ravichandran Ashwin’s dramatic on-field altercation with an umpire, another moment has surfaced that lit up social media, a fan’s playful banter aimed at former Chennai Super Kings star Subramaniam Badrinath. During a recent TNPL fixture, while Badrinath was engaged in his commentary duties, an Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fan from the stands waved an RCB jersey in an attempt to grab his attention.
Initially, Badrinath did not respond, fully immersed in his broadcasting responsibilities. However, once he spotted the fan and recognized the jersey, he responded with a warm smile and a wave. The subtle but endearing moment, captured on camera, quickly went viral across various social media platforms, drawing attention from both CSK and RCB supporters, and reigniting the ever-persistent friendly banter between the two passionate fanbases.
Badrinath has long been synonymous with the CSK. A rock in the CSK middle-order during their formative years, Badrinath played a pivotal role in the franchise’s golden run between 2008 and 2013. He was part of the championship-winning squads in 2010 and 2011.

RCB break their IPL 2025 trophy drought while CSK hit rock bottom
The RCB fan’s cheeky move was particularly relevant this season, given how drastically the fortunes of RCB and CSK contrasted in the 2025 IPL. For years, RCB were trolled for being the most glamorous franchise without a title, despite boasting a lineup filled with global superstars. However, that narrative was finally put to rest in spectacular fashion. In a thrilling final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB edged past Punjab Kings by six runs to lift their maiden IPL title.
It was a culmination of years of heartbreak, rebuilds, and near-misses. All-rounder Krunal Pandya rose to the occasion in the summit clash, delivering an exceptional bowling performance that helped seal a nerve-wracking victory. On the other hand, it was a season to forget for CSK. Chennai began the tournament with high hopes under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, but his unfortunate injury early in the campaign derailed their plans. The return of the legendary MS Dhoni as captain brought a glimmer of hope, yet the team couldn’t recover from their poor start and eventually ended up finishing at the bottom of the points table.
