Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 16-member squad for the highly anticipated three-match Test series against Australia, set to commence on June 25 at Kensington Oval, Barbados. This series marks the beginning of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle and carries the added prestige of contesting the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy.

New WTC cycle, new faces in West Indies squad

The squad, led by Roston Chase with Jomel Warrican as vice-captain, features a blend of experience and fresh talent. Notably, John Campbell returns to the fold after a prolific domestic season, while uncapped top-order batter Kevlon Anderson earns his maiden call-up following impressive performances in domestic cricket. Keacy Carty is recalled on the back of his recent ODI form, and ODI vice-captain Brandon King secures his first Test inclusion. White-ball captain Shai Hope also returns to the red-ball squad, aiming to bolster the batting lineup.

Notable absentees among the fast bowlers

The pace attack will be spearheaded by Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph — the latter being the only player from IPL 2025 included in the squad. Young fast bowler Johann Layne, who has claimed 63 wickets in 17 first-class matches, and Anderson Phillip, fresh from a five-wicket haul for West Indies A, provide further depth. Spin duties will be handled by captain Roston Chase and vice-captain Jomel Warrican.

Veteran pacer Kemar Roach, a mainstay of the West Indies attack for over a decade, has been omitted from the squad, a decision CWI described as part of their strategy to invest in emerging talent.
