Joseph’s first strike came in his second over, trapping Sam Konstas with a delivery that angled in sharply from around off. The ball skidded in off the seam and struck high on the back pad as Konstas stood rooted in the crease. Though initially turned down, Roston Chase confidently reviewed, and rightly so. Ball tracking confirmed it was crashing into leg stump, handing Joseph his first wicket with a classic seamer’s dismissal.

Six overs later, Joseph produced an even better ball to remove Cameron Green. Charging in at 143kph, Joseph delivered a full-length ball from wide of the crease on a fourth-stump line. It held its line and kissed the seam, tempting Green into a hard-handed push. The thick edge flew low to second slip where Justin Greaves dived forward to pouch a clean catch. The third umpire confirmed the fingers were under the ball. Green, undone by a similar mistake he made in the WTC final, fell for just 3. Joseph roared in celebration, two wickets, both clinical, both earned by elite seam craft. With bounce, shape and control, he had set the tone in emphatic style.

Joseph leads fierce West Indies burst as Australia stumble to 65/3 at Lunch

The first session at Kensington Oval belonged firmly to West Indies, thanks to an inspired burst of fast bowling from Shamar Joseph, who struck twice in a blistering spell to reduce Australia to 65/3 by lunch on Day 1. Australia, after electing to bat on a fresh Bridgetown surface, were rocked early when debutant Konstas fell to a sharp in-dipper from Joseph, initially given not out but overturned via review as replays showed it thudding into leg stump. Joseph followed it up with a peach to dismiss Green, a 143kph delivery that straightened late and drew a thick edge to second slip. Josh Inglis was next to depart, nicking Jayden Seales to the keeper, leaving Australia wobbling at 22/3. Amidst the top-order collapse, Usman Khawaja held firm with a gritty unbeaten 32, while Travis Head counterattacked with a fluent 21 not out as the pair guided the visitors to a somewhat stable 61/3 at the break. Joseph’s disciplined line and length, coupled with Seales’ support, ensured the Windies stayed on top in a fiery first session of the series.
