When it comes to dominance in international cricket, no team matches the consistency and success of Australia. From winning a record five ODI World Cups (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015) to clinching two ICC Champions Trophies and a T20 World Cup, the Aussies have built a legacy built on grit, preparation, and tactical brilliance. They are also the reigning champions of the ICC World Test Championship, having defeated India in the 2023 final. Across formats, Australia have not only set benchmarks for excellence but also sustained its supremacy over decades — a feat no other team has achieved on such a scale.
Harbhajan Singh reveals why Australia consistently win trophies
Speaking on JioHotstar and Star Sports ahead of the World Test Championship 2025 Final, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh attributed Australia’s unmatched success to their mental strength and superior understanding of conditions.
“Australia will come prepared. They’ve played a lot of cricket in England – Ashes, the last WTC Final – and that experience will count. They understand these conditions better than South Africa. Plus, they’re a champion side,” Harbhajan remarked.
He emphasized that their ability to stay composed under pressure is the biggest differentiator. Bhajji added: “The difference lies in how you handle pressure during big matches, and Aussies are masters at that. That’s why they’ve won more trophies than anyone else.”

Harbhajan on why Pat Cummins is a special leader
Harbhajan also heaped praise on current Australian captain Pat Cummins, calling him a “very special” leader. He said: “Cummins is one of those leaders who brings everyone together. More importantly, he’s a proven match-winner with great command in the dressing room.”
According to Harbhajan, the respect Cummins commands from his teammates is key to Australia’s winning culture.
“When your team respects and rallies behind you, you win more matches. That’s what makes him a very special captain for Australia,” concluded the veteran spinner.
