On Day 2 of the high-intensity World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, Australia kept themselves firmly in the driving seat against South Africa with a disciplined all-round performance. Amidst all the high-class action, one moment stood out, a peach of a delivery that left the Proteas crowd on their feet.
Kagiso Rabada strikes with a beautiful ball to remove Cameron Green
After a dismal show with the bat in the first innings, South Africa began strongly with the ball in the second. The standout performer from the first innings, Kagiso Rabada, once again provided early breakthroughs to give the Proteas a much-needed boost. Known for his sharp pace, aggressive approach, and precise line and length, Rabada struck twice in just three deliveries to put Australia under pressure.
In the 11th over of Australia’s innings, Rabada delivered a superb ball to dismiss all-rounder Cameron Green. Pitching it on a perfect good length just outside off stump, the ball moved enough to force Green into a front-foot defense. The resulting edge flew towards the slip cordon, where Wiaan Mulder, positioned at third slip made no mistake.

South Africa starts strong with the ball but Australia tightens grip on Day 2
Meanwhile, South Africa once again started well with the ball in the third innings. After a disappointing performance with the bat, Rabada stepped up to deliver two early breakthroughs, keeping the Proteas’ hopes alive. He first removed Usman Khawaja with a slightly short ball, then followed it up by dismissing Green with a brilliant delivery that forced an edge.
Despite the promising start, Australia’s lead has already crossed 120, and with plenty of batting still to come, South Africa will need an exceptional all-round effort to stay in contention for the WTC crown. The bowlers must maintain pressure, while the batters will need to show resilience and determination in the fourth innings. A strong fightback from both departments is crucial if South Africa hopes to script a memorable turnaround and etch their name on the prestigious WTC trophy.
