The fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester, has lived up to its billing with momentum swings, individual brilliance, and a controversial wicket that has fans glued to their screens. England, trailing the series 1-2, need a win to square things up, while India seek to clinch the series on English soil. As Day 2 came to a close, both sides had endured dramatic passages of play—including one featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Zak Crawley, and a slip-catching masterclass by KL Rahul.
Ravindra Jadeja’s no-ball twist and KL Rahul’s stunning catch to dismiss Zak Crawley
England’s openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, began sensationally, carving up India’s attack and racing to a 166-run opening stand. India’s bowlers looked bereft of ideas on an unresponsive pitch, while boundaries flowed freely. Crawley, in particular, appeared destined for a rare ton against India. But the drama peaked in Jadeja’s 32nd over: after the sixth ball, which went for four, umpire Kumar Dharmasena signalled a no-ball, forcing Jadeja to bowl an extra delivery.
On the bonus ball, Jadeja produced a probing delivery that straightened off the seam. Crawley leaned forward in defense, but the ball kissed his edge and flew low to KL Rahul at slip. Rahul, anticipating sharply, stooped to scoop up a stunning catch just above the turf. As celebrations erupted, Crawley lingered, watching replays to check if the ball had carried cleanly. After a tense review, it was confirmed—the fingers were under the ball. Crawley’s classy 84 off 113 balls had ended, a moment that could shift the balance of the Test.

Indian bowlers falter under pressure on Day 2 of the fourth Test
Earlier, India had posted a respectable 358 in their first innings, built on half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), Sai Sudharsan (61), KL Rahul (46), and Rishabh Pant (54). England’s reply, however, exposed the frailties in India’s bowling on Day 2. Despite conditions that offered some movement, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah (13-4-37-0), Mohammed Siraj (10-0-58-0), Shardul Thakur (5-0-35-0), and debutant Anshul Kamboj (10-1-48-1) struggled for rhythm and consistency. Both Duckett and Crawley punished anything loose, as England scored at nearly 5 runs per over for much of the day.
By stumps, England had stormed to 225/2 in just 46 overs, still trailing by 133 but well-positioned to take the lead. Duckett, falling short of a century at 94, and the steady hands of Ollie Pope and Joe Root left India reeling. Only Jadeja, buoyed by his wicket of Crawley, offered any real threat, finishing with figures of 8-0-37-1. The bowlers’ inability to control the run flow, coupled with wayward lines and lengths, has put India under pressure as the Test advances toward a pivotal third day.
