In the crucial fourth Test between England and India, the visitors were dealt a massive blow on the opening day as their reliable wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered an injury while batting that could be a potentially major setback for India, who are trail 2-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Scans detect fracture on Rishabh Pant’s foot after Day 1 blow
In the 68th over of India’s first innings, Pant was batting fluently on 37 when he attempted an unorthodox reverse sweep against England pacer Chris Woakes. The premeditated shot backfired as the ball struck him flush on the boot. Pant was visibly in immense pain and unable to walk on his own. He had to be taken off the field in a medical vehicle, with early signs of swelling and even bleeding on his injured foot—a worrying sight for Team India.
Meanwhile, the scan report confirmed a fracture, ruling Pant out for six weeks. Despite this, the medical team is exploring the possibility of him returning to bat with the help of painkillers. However, he still requires support to walk, and the chances of him batting again in this Test appear very slim.
“The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak,” as reported by Indian Express.

Pant’s sensational performance with the bat in the series
Pant has been one of India’s best performers in this series. In 7 innings so far, he has scored 462 runs at an impressive average of 66.00, making him the second-highest run-getter. His most memorable showing came in the opening Test at Leeds, where he scored centuries in both innings—setting the tone for India’s fight in the series. Pant’s aggressive yet dependable batting has often helped India recover from tough situations. With him now sidelined due to injury, India will feel his absence strongly, especially at a time when they’re trailing 2-1 and need their key players to step up.
