Team India’s narrow 22-run defeat against England at Lord’s became a major talking point in the cricketing fraternity. Despite being in a comfortable position for most of the game, the match slipped away in the fourth innings. Among the key moments that led to the heartbreak was Rishabh Pant’s run-out on Day 3. Meanwhile, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa recently questioned the blunder that shifted the momentum towards England.
Robin Uthappa slams KL Rahul for his eagerness towards century
Following the Lord’s Test, KL Rahul revealed that he was keen to complete his century before the Lunch. On this Robin has raised questions over Rahul and the team’s mindset. He pointed out that someone should have asked Rahul why reaching the hundred before Tea was so important, suggesting that understanding this thought process could have shed light on the team’s approach to personal milestones.
“Did anyone ask him why he deemed getting his 100 before Lunch? There must have been a reason. Why was that a thought? Why was that deeply considered? If someone asked him why, we would have gotten to the bottom of this whole thing about milestones,” Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.

Uthappa also drawn comparisons with England and Australian players
Uthappa further added that while such numbers might not carry the same long-term weight for Australian or English players, they matter a great deal to Indian cricketers because centuries are celebrated—and scrutinized—far more by the Indian media and critics, making milestones especially significant.
“I don’t think these numbers would matter for an Australian or an English player in the long run. But for an Indian player, it matters. A hundred matters. It means a lot more because it means a lot more to the Indian media and critics alike. So hundreds and milestones are a big thing,” Uthappa further added.
India were in a commanding position on Day 3 as Rahul was batting brilliantly, stitching together a 141-run partnership with Pant. However, a sensational direct hit from Ben Stokes turned the tide, removing the well-set Pant and shifting momentum in England’s favour.
