The much-awaited fifth and final Test between England and India began on Thursday at the Oval in London. England captain Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out of this Test due to a shoulder injury, was replaced at the helm by Ollie Pope. Winning the toss, Pope opted to bowl first under favorable conditions for seamers, and the decision paid immediate dividends. England’s pace attack struck early, dismissing two Indian batters within the first 15.1 overs to put the visitors under pressure right from the start.

KL Rahul’s unfortunate dismissal in Oval Test

KL Rahul, who looked solid and determined against the new ball, suffered a heartbreaking dismissal. Facing Chris Woakes, Rahul encountered a back-of-length delivery that angled in and climbed unexpectedly. In an attempt to cut the ball, he found it too close to his body, forcing him into a hurried stroke. The result was disastrous—Rahul chopped it back onto his stumps, ending what had been a promising innings far too soon. His dismissal was a major blow for India, especially considering the early wickets lost.

Rahul’s wicket once again highlighted the gripping battle between him and Chris Woakes in this series. Their numbers so far:

  • Innings: 9
  • Balls faced: 255
  • Runs scored: 141
  • Dismissals: 3
  • Average: 47
  • False shot percentage: 14.5%

While Rahul has displayed patience and skill against Woakes for the most part, the English seamer has had the last laugh on multiple occasions, including this crucial breakthrough at the Oval.
