Team India clinched a scintillating win at Edgbaston, led by a composed and commanding performance from Shubman Gill. The young sensation played a key role in guiding India to the victory, helping secure one of the most historic Test wins on English soil. But after the triumph, came a funny yet heart-touching moment in the press conference that stole the show.

Shubman Gill’s witty press conference moment steals spotlight

Gill began the press conference with a light-hearted remark, noticing the absence of a journalist he frequently engaged with. Reflecting on the lead-up to the Test, he shared that he never put much weight on stats or historical records. Over the last 50 to 60 years, India had only played seven matches at Edgbaston, all with different teams in different contexts.

For Gill, what truly mattered was the strength and belief of the current squad. He expressed full confidence in this Indian side, calling it the best team to tour England in recent times, capable of not just competing but winning the series. According to him, with the right decisions and sustained fight, this could become one of the most memorable series in Indian cricket history.

“I can’t see my favourite journalist, where is he? I even said before the Test match, I don’t believe in stats or history. In the history of 50-60 years, we’ve played 7 matches (at Edgbaston) over different courses with different teams coming here. I believe this is the best Indian team to be able to come here to England, and we have the capability to beat them, to win the series from here. If we keep making the right decisions and keep fighting, I think it would be one of the series to remember,” Gill said in the post-match conference.

Gill’s twin tons script India’s historic 336-run triumph at Edgbaston

Gill produced a masterclass for the ages, hammering scores of 269 and 161 as India crushed England by a colossal 336 runs in the 2nd Test at Edgbaston. His leadership from the front was unmatched, turning the tide of the series and helping India level it 1-1. With a record-breaking 430 runs in the match, Gill set the tone in the first innings with a composed double hundred and returned in the second to smash a near run-a-ball 161. England’s decision to bowl first backfired as India piled up 587, before setting a daunting target of 608. England folded for 271 on Day 5, unable to handle Akash Deep’s relentless pace and Gill’s tactical brilliance.
