In the first match of the three-game WODI series, India’s batting all-rounder Deepti Sharma stood out with a brilliant knock. Her composed innings anchored the chase, but it was one standout shot that truly stole the show as India completed a confident four-wicket victory to take the early lead in the series.
Deepti Sharma smashes a stunning one-handed six
The moment unfolded in the 38th over of the second innings, when Deepti showcased her power and timing with a stunning six off Lauren Bell. It was a slot delivery, fuller and just outside off, inviting the big shot. Deepti responded with a commanding heave, using her bottom hand to generate immense power. Though her bottom hand came off the bat during the stroke, the connection was clean and sweet. The ball soared high and deep, clearing the boundary with ease and landing well over the ropes in deep mid-wicket region.

India scripts a record run chase in the opening game
India pulled off a sensational win in the first match with a commanding batting performance. After winning the toss, England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt chose to bat first. However, the story remained similar to the T20Is for the home side as their top order failed to deliver. A fine knock from Sophia Dunkley, supported by Davidson Richards, helped England recover and post a formidable total of 258. For India, Kranti Goud and Sneh Rana chipped in with two wickets each.
In reply, the Indian batters looked in complete control. Two back-to-back 45-plus partnerships from the top order laid a solid foundation. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti completed the job with composure, chasing down India’s second-highest total in WODIs. Deepti was named Player of the Match for her brilliant unbeaten 62 off 64 balls.
