South Africa have named strong and balanced squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia, scheduled to begin on August 10. The tour will consist of three T20 Internationals followed by as many One-Day Internationals. With the T20 World Cup set to begin in the early 2026, the series provides a valuable opportunity for the Proteas to test combinations and give exposure to fresh talent against a competitive Australian side.

Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma return to lead South Africa

The tour marks the return of Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma to South Africa’s leadership group in white-ball cricket. Markram will captain the T20I squad, while Bavuma resumes ODI captaincy duties. The two senior players missed the recent tour of Zimbabwe, with Bavuma recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the ICC World Test Championship final at Lord’s, and Markram being rested.

Their inclusion is expected to add significant stability and experience to the line-ups, especially with South Africa trying to strike the right balance between youth and leadership across both formats.

Fresh blood meets familiar names in new-look squads

The squads reflect a blend of established international stars and promising newcomers. Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has received his maiden T20I and ODI call-up following an impressive domestic season and his recent Test debut in Zimbabwe. Another fresh face is hard-hitting batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who also made his Test and T20I debut during the Zimbabwe tour and now finds a place in the ODI squad.

Rising star Dewald Brevis continues his rise in international cricket with selection in both squads, joined by other youngsters like Corbin Bosch, Tristan Stubbs, and Nandre Burger. Meanwhile, mainstays such as Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Ryan Rickelton have retained their spots, ensuring South Africa maintains a core group of experienced performers.
