The India-Pakistan rivalry in cricket has always been more than just a sporting contest, and the upcoming semi-final in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 is no exception. In a significant move that underscores the tense political backdrop of the clash, an Indian travel company has announced its withdrawal as a sponsor, citing national interest and strong opposition to normalising ties with Pakistan through cricket.
EaseMyTrip pulls out ahead of India vs Pakistan game
Indian travel company EaseMyTrip has decided to withdraw its sponsorship from the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan semi-final of the WCL 2025. The move came just hours after India, led by Yuvraj Singh, clinched a dramatic spot in the final four by securing their only win of the tournament.
EaseMyTrip founder Nishant Pitti announced the decision on X, asserting that the company’s stance was rooted in national interest. Pitti made it clear that the decision to pull out was rooted in the belief that cricket should not be used to normalise relations with a country associated with terrorism. While congratulating Yuvraj and his team for their semi-final qualification, he emphasised that patriotism takes precedence over business interests, declaring that ‘nation comes first, business later.’
“We applaud Team India @India_Champions for their outstanding performance in the World Championship of Legends, you’ve made the nation proud. However, the upcoming semi-final against Pakistan is not just another game. Terror and cricket cannot go hand in hand. EaseMyTrip, we stand with India. We cannot support any event that attempts to normalise relations with a country that promotes terrorism. The people of India have spoken and we hear them. EaseMyTrip will not be associated with the India vs Pakistan match in WCL. Some things are bigger than sport. Nation first, business later. Always. Jai Hind,” wrote Pitti on X.

India’s narrow semi-final entry
India secured their semi-final berth with a thrilling chase against West Indies in their final group-stage match. Yuvraj’s side had to overhaul a target of 145 runs within 14.1 overs to stay alive in the tournament. Thanks to Stuart Binny‘s explosive unbeaten 50 off just 21 deliveries, India reached the target in 13.2 overs, edging past competitors and booking their place in the semi-finals alongside Pakistan, South Africa, and Australia.
