South Africa Champions crush Australian Champions
De Villiers found an able partner in JJ Smuts as the duo stitched a massive 187-run opening stand in just 81 balls. Smuts played a solid hand with 85 off 53 deliveries, including 10 fours and 3 sixes, complementing de Villiers’ fireworks at the other end. The duo’s explosive partnership helped South Africa Champions pile up a daunting 241/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For the Australians, Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 38 runs.
In reply, the Australian Champions faltered early and never recovered, eventually folding for just 146 in 16.4 overs. Ben Cutting was the lone warrior, scoring an unbeaten 59, but lacked support from the rest of the lineup. Captain Aaron Phangiso led from the front with the ball, delivering a match-winning spell of 4/13 in 3.4 overs. Imran Tahir added to the misery of the Aussies with figures of 3 wickets, as South Africa wrapped up a thumping 95-run victory.
