Australia captain Pat Cummins has shared his thoughts on India’s historic Test victory at Edgbaston against England on Sunday. His remarks came during the post-match press conference in Grenada after Australia clinched a 133-run win over the West Indies. While discussing the match, Cummins mockingly appeared to take a dig at the nature of English pitches, drawing a few smiles in the room.

Pat Cummins reacts to India’s Edgbaston win with a hint of sarcasm

On being asked about the Edgbaston Test Cummins said that he hadn’t been watching the India and England match closely, though he joked that teammate Marnus Labuschagne probably was. He noted that the Edgbaston surface looked extremely batter-friendly, calling it one of the flattest pitches seen in England. Comparing the Test matches in the Caribbean to those in England, Cummins remarked that they almost felt like two different versions of the sport due to the stark contrast in conditions. With the series now level at 1-1, he added that it promises to be an exciting contest going forward.

“I wasn’t (watching India vs England), probably Marnus (Labuschagne) was, we’ll keep an eye on it. Who’d want to be a bowler over there? Well, I wouldn’t be surprised (over Edgbaston wicket being the third flattest wicket in English history). Looking at Test cricket his week over here compared to that, looks like two different sports. It looks like it is going to be a good series, 1-1 now,” Cummins stated.

Two victories with two different tales on Sunday

The Test cricketing season is in full swing, with teams across the world battling it out in the longest format of the game. Among the weekend fixtures, two significant matches concluded on Sunday. Australia registered a convincing win over hosts West Indies on a challenging surface where pacers dominated throughout. The Australian batters showed resilience, with Alex Carey playing a crucial knock that laid the foundation for a strong series-clinching victory.

Meanwhile, India produced a commanding all-round performance to outclass England at Edgbaston, on a pitch that heavily favoured batting. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a sensational double century in the first innings followed by a century in the second, breaking multiple records along the way.
