In a much-anticipated turn of events, the India Champions vs Pakistan Champions clash in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been called off due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations. The cancellation has triggered massive fan reactions on social media, with many widely appreciating the Indian team’s stance.

India vs Pakistan match called off amid backlash

In a recent statement released by the WCL organizers seeking an apology the organizers stated that with recent sporting fixtures between India and Pakistan taking place, including hockey and volleyball, they hoped to continue the trend with the WCL match to spread joy globally. However, acknowledging the emotional impact it caused, they have decided to cancel the match and sincerely apologized for any hurt sentiments, hoping for public understanding.

“After seeing the recent India vs Pakistan volleyball match along with a few other fixtures between the two nations in different sports, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL, just to create some happy memories for people around the globe. But maybe in the process, we ended up hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions. Hence, we have decided to call off the India-Pakistan match. We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans,” the WCL statment said.

Several Indian players had pulled out from the match

Earlier former Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan pulled out of the Pakistan clash. In a social media post Dhawan said “Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi vaisa hi khada hun, mera desh mere liye sb kuch hai aur desh se badh kar kuch nahi hota (The decision I took on May 11, I stand by it even today. My country means everything to me, and nothing is greater than the nation).

Furthermore, reports came out that several other players including Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh have also pulled out from the WCL Clash on Sunday.
