Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey recently expressed his admiration for cricketing Indian icon MS Dhoni calling him a genius. Carey’s praise came in a fun reaction video. The Australian keeper was reacting to some of the most bizarre and brilliant wicketkeeping moments in the history of the sport. A particular instance involving Dhoni left him in awe.
Alex Carey calls MS Dhoni a genius while reacting to his famous stumping
Reacting to a stumping from a T20I match between India and Australia in Melbourne in 2016. The clip shows Dhoni stumping a confused James Faulkner off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. The ball had deflected off Faulkner’s inside edge and hit Dhoni’s pads before ricocheting onto the stumps. While many would consider it a stroke of luck Carey believes it was an intentional act of brilliance. “Dhoni, he’s a genius so he probably meant it. This probably is intentional because it is MS Dhoni,” Carey said in the video.
His comments show he believes Dhoni’s on field awareness is so extraordinary that even a seemingly lucky dismissal is likely a calculated move. This isn’t the first time Carey has spoken about his admiration for Dhoni. In the past he has openly stated his desire to emulate Dhoni’s finishing skills and his ability to remain calm under pressure.
