Cricket Australia (CA) has officially announced a 15-player squad for the upcoming Under-19 home series against India, which is set to begin on September 21. The multi-format series will feature three one-day matches followed by two four-day games, providing an ideal platform for the next generation of talent from both cricketing nations to shine.

The series will mark a significant step in Australia’s preparations ahead of future international youth competitions. It also represents the beginning of a new era under head coach Tim Nielsen, who previously guided the senior national team between 2007 and 2011 and now takes charge of the U19 unit for the first time.

Two Indian-origin players headline Australia U19 squad

Among the standout selections in the Australian squad are two Indian-origin cricketers — Aryan Sharma and Yash Deshmukh — who have earned their spots following strong domestic performances.

Aryan, a promising batter from Victoria, is expected to add solidity to Australia’s top order. Deshmukh, an all-rounder from New South Wales, brings balance to the side with his dual skills and is one of five players from his state to be picked. Their inclusion highlights the growing influence of multicultural talent within Australian cricket.

The squad also features names like Simon Budge, Alex Turner, and Steve Hogan — all of whom have shown potential in the domestic youth circuit. Charles Lachmund and Ben Gordon are among the bowling options expected to feature prominently.

This five-match campaign against India will serve as a crucial developmental tour for both nations’ youth cricketers, offering them exposure to international-level competition early in their careers.
